The history of Jean Pascaud (1903–1996) is defined by his transition from an engineer to a renowned French furniture designer and decorator of the Art Deco era. He was known for his elegant, traditionalist style, which favored exotic woods and luxurious finishes over the more radical modernism of his contemporaries.

Exhibitions: By the late 1920s, Pascaud was regularly exhibiting his refined furniture designs at the major French salons, including the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. He received the prestigious Grand Prix at the 1937 International Exposition in Paris.

Education: Pascaud was born in Rouen, France, and graduated as an engineer from the prestigious École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in 1924.

Shift to design: The International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925 inspired Pascaud to change career paths. His interest in decorative arts was also nurtured by his father-in-law, Auguste Bluysen, the president of the Society of Modern Architects.
